Impress Recruiters with your AI Voice Agent Twin
Howdy 👋
Been a minute - I know. That's cause I've been cooking.
I moved from Chainlink where I headed up DevRel engineering to Cartesia.ai where I am the founding Head of DevRel now. And wowsers, has AI changed the world...
As part of my interview I built a voice AI agent that recruiters can call to ask about my work history. Frankly, it was so insanely easy that I decided to make a series of short lessons on it, so you can do it too.
Even if you're not a coder!
Here's what my digital twin does: It answers in my voice. It searches the web. It sends email transcripts after the call.
I built it in three short videos — no-code first, then Python with simple tools, then adding more tools that integrate with services like Tavily and AgentMail.
Each phase takes less than 20 minutes.
Here's why I'm sharing this with you.
What I built (and why it matters for your career)
The point wasn't the project. The point was the pattern. You know how I keep banging on about pattern-recognition being the skill in this AI-dominated world?
Well... it's easy to start. Start with no-code. Understand what's happening. Add one layer of code. Add one tool. Ship it.
That's how real engineers learn new tech. Not 40-hour courses. Not tutorial hell. One working thing, then the next.
If you're learning to code, or you're already coding and want to break into AI engineering — this is the most useful content I've made this year.
Video 1 — No-code digital twin

Zero Python. A working voice agent with a phone number. In under 10 minutes.
Video 2 — Adding web search with Tavily
|
A little Python, made ridiculously easy by the Cartesia Line SDK. Add tool calling so it not just reads your LinkedIn data but also has your resume to lookup - lookup in real time, during the call!
Video 3 — Adding email with AgentMail
The agent sends you an alert when a call starts - using the fantastic AgentMail tool (this is the tool people use to give their Hermes/OpenClaw personal agents an email address of their own!) . Offers callers an email transcript. Handles email addresses spoken out loud. (Harder than it sounds — Cartesia handles it well.)

If you want to follow along, the code is straightforward enough that you can adapt it for your own use — a portfolio project, a job interview demo, or just proof to yourself that you can build real AI systems.
